Place the top of the humidifier block to one side. Remove the sponge element and discard. Clean away any remnants (or dust) left from the sponge humidifier element from the bottom of the humidifier block. Remove the sponge element from the humidifier block.
Empty the bag containing the acrylic polymer crystals into the lower half of the humidifier block. Empty the acrylic polymer crystals into the lower half of the humidifier block.
Spread the acrylic polymer crystals evenly in the lower half of the humidifier block. Spread the crystals evenly in the lower half of the humidifier block.
Add a little distilled water. Immediately the acrylic polymer crystals will start to absorb it and grow in size. Add a little distilled water.
Monitor and keep adding small amounts of distilled water as it is absorbed into the acrylic polymer crystals. Monitor and keep adding small amounts of distilled water as it is absorbed into the acrylic polymer crystals.
Repeat the process. Monitor and keep adding small amounts of distilled water as it is absorbed into the acrylic polymer crystals. Continue to add small amounts of distilled water to the acrylic polymer crystals as it is absorbed.
Within an hour you will notice that the crystals have expanded considerably as they have absorbed the distilled water. In this picture the crystals have grown so that they are a little above the top edge of the humidifier block. Stop adding distilled water. Within an hour you will notice that the crystals have expanded considerably.
Re-fit the top of the humidifier block. Give the humidifier, (grate facing down), a gentle shake over a sink to allow any un-absorbed water to fall through the grate. In the event that the humidifier is going to be placed in the lid of a humidor with the grate facing downwards, stand the humidifier face-down on a sheet of kitchen towel for an hour to ensure that there is no possibility of any water dripping out onto expensive cigars when the humidifier is placed back in the humidor. All done. Re-fit the top of the humidifier block to the bottom.
